SOUNDS OF THE HYBRID

SOUNDS OF THE HYBRID focuses on creating manipulated musical objects that demonstrate the ability to develop new and alternative sounds, via a new hybrid form.

I use the term “musical object” as a way to encompass both musical instruments, such as guitars and percussion pieces, and objects associated with music, such as record players and headphones.  The main objective is to use these traditional musical objects as the grounds for manipulation to create new hybrid musical objects in order to create alternative sounds and ways of interaction. These musical objects are intended to be played and to allow the viewer to reconsider, through the potential of hybrid musical objects, traditional norms in sound generation via the human hand.

The work spawns from a love of both fine art and music and the desire to merge the two and have them function as one.  I do not limit myself to one form of making, because fabrication, installation, and performance are all utilized in the creation of my work.  I am driven to not only create work for my own personal use and practice but also allow my musical objects to be developed further and used by other artists and musicians.
